December 9, 2021

Dear Parents,

This letter is to inform you that one of our students brought a gun to the high school on December 8th. The Community School of Excellence is committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate with parents about safety issues when they arise.

The office received information that a backpack was making a clicking sound. The student was immediately questioned. The backpack was locked in a secured place until the police arrived. At no time was the gun brought out at school or used to threaten other students or staff.

Proper authorities were notified including the St. Paul Police Department. Our school has a zero tolerance policy for weapons. The student involved will be subject to school board policy and appropriate laws that govern weapons on school grounds.

Please discuss this incident with your children and emphasize that it is against the law to bring weapons of any type to school. Also, please emphasize the importance of telling you or a staff member if there is a weapon at school. In this way, we are all working together to keep our school safe.

Please feel free to contact Kazoua at 651-917-0013 or email kazouakt@csemn.org if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Bao Vang
Chief Executive Officer

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Nyob Zoo and Welcome!! We are excited and counting down the days your child(ren) returns to school.

CSE's top priority is to provide in-person learning for all our young scholars. We have worked tirelessly this summer and during the last two weeks before school starts to ensure that the safety and health of our young scholars and staff is carefully considered.

At the August 18th Board meeting, the directors voted on REQUIRING masks to be worn by everyone, including students, staff, and visitors, in the building. This is just one measure of prevention that CSE knows will help slow the spread of COVID-19 as we transition back to be fully on-site.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will make the necessary adjustments. We will continuously monitor the preventative measures we have implemented and if there are changes, we will communicate that as soon as possible with you.

Please support us in ensuring a healthy school environment by doing the following:

- If your child(ren) has a fever of 100.4 or higher, stay home.

- If your child(ren) has a runny nose and cough, stay home.

- If your child(ren) has chills, sore throat, muscle aches, shortness of breath, or loss of smell or taste, stay home.

In addition, we will be taking the temperature of our young scholars before they get off the bus or enter the building. If they display any of these symptoms and/or have a fever of 100.4 or higher, we will call home. We will require that you pick up your child until your child(ren) is free of these symptoms for 24 hours.

We understand that there may be hardship and concern for loss of learning. We are committed to working with you and your child(ren) to ensure that they received continued academic support during this time. If you have any questions please contact us.

Ua tsaug! Sincerely,

Bao Vang, Chief Executive Officer and Kazoua Kong-Thao, Chief Administration Officer
