If Youre Hungry and You Know It
"If You lot're Happy and You Know It" is a popular repetitive children's and drinking song. The song has been noted for its similarities to "Molodejnaya", a song actualization in the 1938 Soviet musical film Volga-Volga.[one]
History [edit]
The origin of the melody is not known, just numerous sources trace it dorsum to Spain, Latin America, Latvia or the U.s..
The vocal was published in various places through the decades following the late 1960s, including a book of "constructive recreational activities" for children (1957),[2] a book of drama projects for disabled children (1967),[3] and a nursing home manual (1966).[four]
In 1971, Jonico Music filed for copyright on the song, crediting it to Joe Raposo.[5]
During the early part of the 2000s, the music Recording Industry Clan of America actively prosecuted individuals for downloading music using file-sharing services. Widespread media attending was paid to ane 12-yr-old, whose downloads included "If Yous're Happy and You Know It" from Kazaa.[six] [7] [8] [nine]
In 2007, the song was included as part of the Nihon no Uta Hyakusen, a listing of the 100 most well-known folk songs in Japan. Information technology is one of nine songs from foreign countries included on the listing. It was selected by the Agency of Cultural Affairs and the National Congress of Parents and Teachers Associations of Japan.
In 2020, Granger Smith recorded a version that relied on alcohol drinking called "Country and Ya Know Information technology".[10]
Lyric variations [edit]
Like many children's songs, there are many versions of the lyrics. A popular version goes like this:
If you lot're happy and y'all know it, clap your hands!
If you're happy and you lot know it, handclapping your hands!
If you're happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it;
If you're happy and you lot know it, clap your hands!
This poesy is usually followed by 3 more, four more than, etc. which follow the same pattern just say: "If you lot're happy and yous know it, stomp/stamp your feet!", "If you're happy and you know it, shout/say 'hooray'!" or "shout/say 'amen'!", "If you're happy and you know it, do all three!" and "If you're happy and yous know it, exercise all iv!". Other versions of the song tend to say "then your face will surely evidence it" in place of "and you lot really desire to show information technology"; the form "and then you really ought to show information technology" has likewise been used. Many variations on the substance of the showtime three verses exist, including:[11]
- "... shout/say, 'Hooray'!"
- "... slap your knees!"
- "... slap your legs!"
- "... plow around!"
- "... snap your fingers!"
- "... nod your head!"
- "... tap your toe!"
- "... honk your nose!"
- "... pat your head!"
- "... shout/say, 'We are'!"
- "... stomp/stamp your anxiety!"
- "... shout/say, 'Ha, ha'!"
- "... shout/say, 'Amen'!"
- "... do all three!"
- "... exercise all four!"
